QBUS6860 Group Project 2 Semester 1, 2021QBUS6860 Group Project 2 Semester 1, 2021 1. COVID-19 Determinants This project investigates why difffferent countries experience so vastly difffferent death rates (i.e. the number of fatalities to the number of those infected by the virus). For example, as at 23 September 2020, at the bottom-end of death rates we have Israel with 0.66%, Norway with 2.05% of deaths, Brazil with 3.01%, Belgium with 9.11%, UK with 10.36%, and Italy with 11.88%, and Australia with 3.17%. In this study, we are interested in investigating why the death rates are so vastly difffferent across counties. You are required to produce an interactive dashboard that answers the Graph Objective: “The country-specifific determinants of death rates by COVID-19”. To calculate the death rates, you are required to use the data provided by the John Hopkins Uni versity Coronavirus Resource Centre. There, you can also see a useful dashboard visualizing the pandemic spread: https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html The note under the dashboard gives you the GitHub link for the dataset. This data can get you started in calculating the death rates. However, to answer the Graph Objective, the calculation and analysis of just death rates is not enough. You must conduct additional research to fifind out the determinants of the varying death rates by country. For example, why in Israel where the virus spread early has only 0.66% of deaths, but the death rate in Canada is ten times higher? You must condition the visual analysis on the determinants of death rates. You may use additional data that would complement the data from John Hopkins University. Each group will submit (i) a (maximum) 5 page PDF report and (ii) a tableau TWBX fifile. Every group member will also submit a peer review form on Canvas. Example of report structure: • Introduction, data generation process, data quality report (∼ 1 pages) • Data management (including research on the determinants of the varying death rates by coun try) (∼ 1 pages) • Research, including additional data sources used (∼ 1.5 pages) • Encoding process (Dashboard creation and selection of graphs) (∼ 1 pages) • Conclusions and limitations (∼ 0.5 pages) Rubric: • Introduction, data quality report (20%) • Data management, including research on the determinants of the varying death rates by country (30%) • Research, including additional data sources used (20%) • Encoding process (Dashboard creation and selection of graphs) (15%) • Conclusions and limitations (15%) |
