Copy (text to use) Use a sourced article. You will need to draw out your own ‘header’ text for the article, you may include sub headers and it is recommended to highlight at least one pull quote. Photographs Shoot 6 clear, in focus photographs of architecture and architectural features to use. Method: Step 1 - Research & Document • Go into the newsagent and research the aesthetics of contemporary architecture magazines. Do this as soon as possible so you can to get a head start on your design. • Visual journal as a repository to research online examples and explore different ideas. DIGITAL JOURNAL: Place all your digital research in a file, make sure you keep the url next to where you place an image to cite it correctly. The best way to do this it to start an InDesign document and paste everything you look at as research online as part of this assessment into that document. Think of this like a digital journal. At submission time, tidy it all up and scan and collate all the scanned thumbnails sketches etc. this will form your support materials. Step 2 - Concept & Ideation sketches • Headers - Sketch 10 well resolved thumbnails for different type options for your headers. • Layouts - Sketch up 30 thumbnails layouts for your magazine spreads ideas. • Consider the audience, the nature of the article, text readability, widows, orphans, pull quotes, columns, different page formats. • How are you going to allow for white space in your page spread, and how is this explored over multiple pages? • Complete all of this this in your journals and discuss with your lecturer. When you have resolved your ideas on paper, move to the computer. • Shoot good clear photos based on the theme.Deakin University ADV102 Design & Typography Study Guide 2020 Page 17 Step 3 - InDesign • Move to the computer and set up your file according to your sketch plan. • Place the copy & images into your pages. You will make a 2 minute video and share it to the discussion board. You will also make 2 comments on 2 other students work on the discussion board • Submit a PDF of your design to the cloud • Submit a PDF of all your sketches and research to the cloud.
